Focusing on three key platforms—terrestrial television ( sinetron and variety shows), user-generated content (YouTube), and short-form video (TikTok and Instagram Reels)—the study analyzes how technological shifts, youth demographics, and Islamic cultural norms have shaped content production and audience reception. Using a mixed-methods approach (content analysis of 100 popular videos and semi-structured interviews with 30 Indonesian Gen Z viewers), the paper argues that Indonesian popular video has moved from a state-adjacent, family-oriented model toward a fragmented, platform-driven ecosystem where local humor, religious piety, and aspirational consumerism coexist.
