Drawing on digital ethnography and textual analysis of fan practices on Instagram and YouTube, we argue that “pressing” (a colloquial term for aggressively liking, saving, and re-sharing) spicy content is a form of aspirational labor . This labor allows young women to navigate the chasm between conservative, real-world sexual policing and the hyper-visible, yet fictional, libidinal economy of Bollywood.
