The film is a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008). It follows Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) who receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. Accompanied by his stepfather Hank (Dwayne Johnson), a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzmán), and his daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens), they embark on a mission to find the island. They discover a place of golden volcanoes, massive bees, and Captain Nemo's Nautilus. The adventure focuses on family bonding and survival as they must escape the island before it sinks.
