At first glance, Riaru Onigokko follows Mitsuko, a shy high school student who finds herself in a waking nightmare when her classmates begin dying in spectacularly gruesome ways—disappearing in clouds of blood, being bisected by invisible forces, or simply ceasing to exist. The rules of "tag" are literal: if the killer touches you, you die. Yet, as the film progresses, the setting shifts repeatedly—from a school to a hospital, to a countryside mansion, and even to a parallel universe.
