Mykola lives a peaceful, almost monastic life as a nature-loving teacher in the Ukrainian wilderness. However, when war breaks out, his home is destroyed, and he loses his pregnant wife in a brutal attack by separatist forces. Broken but not defeated, Mykola enlists in the military. His deep knowledge of the forest, patience, and an uncanny ability to become invisible make him a natural sniper.

Mykola, an eccentric physics teacher and pacifist, lives an eco-friendly, quiet life in a dugout with his pregnant wife, Nastya.
