In Nadodigal (2009) and Subramaniapuram (2008), the beloved heroine earns the hero’s love not through sexual or romantic allure first, but through acts of service, sacrifice, and devotion toward his mother. She becomes a surrogate daughter to the mother, thereby legitimizing the romance. The romantic storyline succeeds only when it ceases to compete with the mother and instead becomes an extension of her care.
