In professional adult film, there are rigorous protocols in place to ensure that all actors are consenting adults who have agreed to the activities they will perform. This includes thorough negotiation of boundaries, use of safewords, and on-set support to ensure that all parties feel safe and respected.
This study employed a critical discourse analysis (CDA) of online gay master-slave videos, as well as a review of existing literature on queer theory, media studies, and power dynamics. A sample of 50 videos was selected from popular online platforms, and their content was analyzed for themes, tropes, and representations of power exchange, consent, and queer identity.
