The movie revolves around the life of a 17-year-old girl, Bannet Doshi (played by Fatima Sana Shaikh), who is forced to get married at a young age. The story takes a dramatic turn when Bannet decides to pursue her passion for sports, specifically boxing, and finds an unlikely mentor in her coach, Omkar Singh (played by Salman Khan). As Bannet navigates the challenges of her new life, she must confront the harsh realities of her society and find a way to break free from the shackles of oppression.
The strength of the film lies in its honest depiction of its protagonists, Prem Prakash Tiwari (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Sandhya Varma (Bhumi Pednekar). Prem, a school dropout and VHS tape seller, is deeply insecure and insecurely attached to the unrealistic, idealized beauty standards propagated by Hindi cinema. Sandhya, on the other hand, is educated, outspoken, and overweight. Their arranged marriage is an immediate source of conflict, as Prem is unable to look past Sandhya’s physical appearance, leading to awkwardness, resentment, and emotional cruelty.
