In her own films (notably My Little Princess ), she has demonstrated a sophisticated understanding of how images imprison and liberate. To pose for Playboy is to knowingly enter a hall of mirrors: the reader who buys the magazine for titillation may see only a nude woman; the art historian sees a survivor speaking back to the camera; the tragic observer sees a wound still bleeding.
